Light and airy with extensive attention to detail were the client briefs for the renovation of this 1980's home in SW Portland. A light steel stair with floating maple treads replaces the original dark, carpeted core. This allows for garden views and light from south facing windows to flow into the house. Upstairs, a custom open guardrail with stainless steel cables and a maple top drink shelf provides a vantage point to the living room below. Clear finish maple flooring throughout provides continuity to adjoining rooms and floors. White painted interiors provide a foil to the rich color of the niche filled wall, stainless steel accents, and the gun blued, sand blasted finish of the floating steel stair.
